There are many excellent things to see and do on a European trip, whether you want a romantic holiday, or you just want to see the continent on your own.

Relax in Venice
Venice is floating Italian city notable for its canals and Renaissance architecture, and is ideal for a romantic getaway – you can get around the city by gondola, while taking in sights such as the Doge’s Palace, the Campanile di San Marco, and the Correr Museum.

Explore the Amalfi Coast
This coastal region in Italy is home to some of the most beautiful villages and islands in the Mediterranean; designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Amalfi coast includes villages like Positano and Ravello, as well as the Scala mountains.
The coast is also close enough to Naples for a day trip.

Visit the Vatican
If heading through Italy, stop off at the Vatican in Rome to see some of the country’s best sights; these include the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica, as well as extensive examples of Catholic history.
With its building date still unknown, these ancient stones in England remain one of the most fascinating destinations in Europe – you can reach Stonehenge in a few hours by London on a guided bus tour, or via a train to Salisbury.
Climb the Alps
More ambitious visitors to Europe should consider climbing the Alps, or at the very least trying to walk them. Others may want to relax with skiing and snowboarding around the Chamonix Valley, or might just want to relax in ski lodges.

Experience the Culture of Amsterdam
Home to one of the most vibrant nightlifes in Europe, the Dutch capital of Amsterdam is also an excellent cultural destination, with the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank Museum being particularly popular.
A city that’s uniquely divided between its more European, and its most Eastern parts, Istanbul in Turkey makes for an ideal journey if you want to see the spectacular architecture of the Hagia Sophia, or if you want to experience the energy of the Grand Bazaar market.

For a cost effective European trip, consider a few days in Prague; the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague is a favourite amongst backpackers for its reasonable hotel rates, cheap public transport, and excellent museums and art galleries.

Eat in Paris
The French capital, Paris, is ideal for Michelin starred restaurants, as well as a more general food culture that’s hard to beat. You can opt to eat out as brasseries or bistros, or pick up ingredients in the city’s many open air food markets.
See the Northern Lights
A trip to Northern Europe and Scandinavia affords the chance to see the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, up close: some of the best spots for seeing the Lights include Tromso in Norway, as well as Iceland.
