Got a long haul flight coming up? Here are ten ways to make your flight more comfortable.
10: Block it all out
Bring an eye mask, earplugs, and noise-cancelling headphones to create a comfortable, quiet spot where you can relax and maybe even get some sleep.
9: Come well rested
Don’t assume you are going to sleep on the plane. If you show up exhausted, you are just going to be miserable. Get your beauty sleep before you board.
8: Consider a sleeping pill
If you are going to have an overnight flight, talk to your doctor about getting a sleeping aide or opt for a natural, over-the-counter option like melatonin.
7: Check out Seat Guru

6. Stay hydrate
Prevent headaches, dry skin and even blood clots by simply sipping water throughout your flight. Aim for about one cup of water for every hour that you are in the air. To stay even better hydrated, opt for an electrolyte sports drink. Recent studies have shown they keep you better hydrated in the air.

5: Don’t Drink
Avoid alcohol the night before your flight and once you’re on the plane. It might seem tempting to down a drink or two but you’ll be a whole lot more comfortable if you stay sober. Alcohol causes dehydration, headaches and (occasionally) regret.
4: Get flight socks
This might seem gimmicky but they do work. Prevent minor annoyances like swollen ankles and cut your odds of something more serious like a blood clot by wearing compression flight socks. You really only need one pair that you can reuse for each flight so keep some tucked in your carry-on. Ladies, compression hose are equally effective.
3: Keep moving
Aim to get up out of your seat about once an hour. Simply walk down the aisle. Stand outside the toilet for a bit. Do a few tip toe stretches. Repeat regularly.
2: Pack smart
Keep a small bag stashed beside you with all of your flight essentials then throw the rest in the overhead compartment. Before you get to the airport, make sure you separate your in-flight essentials from the stuff that you just didn’t want to check so that everything is easy to access once you are in your seat.
1: Upgrade
Nothing is going to make you as comfortable as some extra legroom. Save up your frequent flier miles and make it happen for your next long haul flight. Some airlines will let you pay just a bit more for a little extra leg room. Know all of your options and don’t be shy about asking for an upgrade.
