Baden-Baden, Germany

One of Baden Baden’s most popular attractions is the Speilbank Casino. It is the oldest of its type in Germany and Dostoyevsky is said to have based The Gambler on his experiences at the Speilbank. Opulence reigns throughout and the hotel rooms are designed in the style of a French chateau.

The Paradise is an Italian style Renaissance garden which combines visitors’ attractions with inbuilt residential areas. Its central feature is a waterfall which gets its water supply from the ground’s thermal springs. It cascades from an incredible height of 130 feet and is quite impressive.

Baden Baden is also home to the ‘Cultural Mile’: a long street of museums, galleries and historical buildings. It’s rare to see such a well organised collection of cultural treasures in one place. Along the mile, you’ll find Brahms’ house where you can explore the rooms in which Johannes Brahms wrote most of his most famous compositions.
