The beaches in Koh Samui are a wonder to behold – stretches of white sand, clear, warm blue water, sheltered rock pools, stands of coconut palms, and stunning views across the ocean of the neighbouring islands. Every beach in Koh Samui is beautiful, but they each have their own distinct character, or “personality”, that will suit some travellers more than others. Find your beach soulmate below!

Best beach for: Complete privacy, resort accommodation, luxury

Escape the crowds and enjoy your very own private beach when you stay at the Silavadee Pool Spa Resort. Silavadee Beach is pristine – no fighting over space, no noisy throngs of people, and no cares in the world. Big granite boulders provide extra privacy, and you can spend all day relaxing on the beach in peace.

2: Maenam Beach

Best beach for: Backpackers, budget travellers, laid back atmosphere

Peaceful, spacious, and great for a leisurely walk along the water’s edge, Maenam Beach is one of Koh Samui’s best backpacker beaches. It boasts excellent views of nearby Koh Phangan, and simple bungalow accommodation right on the beach for those travelling on a shoe-string budget. Relax under the shade of the coconut palms, or go for a swim in the clear blue water when it gets too hot.

3: Chaweng Beach

Best beach for: Cosmopolitan crowds, cocktails and loungers, party animals

Chaweng beach is big and popular with tourists, and it’s a hotspot for beach parties and hedonists seeking pleasure in the sun. Arrive early to secure a good spot, and take advantage of the vendors selling refreshments on the beach so you don’t need to go to a restaurant until lunch. The night-life is also excellent at Chaweng!

4: Silver Beach

Best beach for: Swimming, snorkelling, sunbathing

Known locally as Thongtakian Beach, “Silver” Beach is probably one of the best beaches in Koh Samui for kayaking and snorkelling. Although the beach is dominated by several big resorts, the beach is still open to all to enjoy. Hire snorkelling or kayaking equipment from one of the beach resorts, and spend the day exploring the gorgeous ocean paradise of Koh Samui. You won’t regret it!

5: Choeng Mon Beach

Best beach for: Privacy, water sports, beautiful views

Choeng Mon beach is tucked away between two of Koh Samui’s tourist hotspots (Chaweng anf Big Buddha), and so it has remained relatively relaxed and clean. Hire a sea kayak and paddle over to one of the nearby islets if you’re up for an adventure, or go snorkelling to get acquainted with the stunning Thai sea life.

6: Lamai beach

Best beach for: Stunning scenery, great amenities, high-end hotels and restaurants

Lamai Beach is the second largest resort area in Koh Samui after Chaweng, and it lives up to its shining reputation as one of the best beaches on the island. Clean, beautiful, and not too crowded, Lamai Beach welcomes all tourists to its shores. Lamai is also close to many tourist attractions, such as Hin Ta and Hin Yai, the Mummy Monk, and many more.
