If you plan to visit Isle of Arran then you should not miss out on a visit to the Brodick Castle; it is generally part of many tourists’ plans that go to visit the town.

The Garden and country park of Brodick Castle is a wonderful place to relax enjoy some peace and quietness as well as get to know the history of the castle.

Brodick Castle is one of the main attractions in Arran and the history of the castle dates all the way back to when the Vikings roamed the land.

During the 13th century is when the first tower of the castle was built and it was later fortified during the 16th century. It was later extended in the 17th century.

The 6th Duchess of Montrose, Lady Mary Louise lived in the castle until 1957.

Much of the furniture that visitors will see in the castle today dates all the way back to the 17th century, with a few things that are even older.

You will be able to observe paintings, porcelain pieces, and silver collections left from the Hamiltons. Sporting pictures and trophies can also be found amongst the possessions of the castle.

The project of building the woodland garden started in 1923 and it was started by the Duchess. Now the garden remains the home of the rhododendron collection.

The garden is a walled garden which is typical to be found on the grounds of a castle; it is walled for protection and privacy of those that reside at the castle. The walled garden dates back to 1710.

Castle is open daily from 1 April to end of October while gardens are open even after that date, but during the weekends only. There is also Country Park surrounding the castle that is open all year round from early morning to sunset.

Basic admission to the Castle, Gardens and Country Park is £11.50 but this property is managed by National Trust for Scotland, so you can buy an annual membership for £15.00 and visit more than 300 properties managed by this organisation throughout UK.
