The Buckingham Palace is the home of Queen Elizabeth II and it is known to be the official sovereign residence for Britain starting the year of 1837. Before it became a palace it was a townhouse that was owned by the Dukes of Buckingham in the early 18th century.

In 1761, George III purchased the Buckingham house for his wife Queen Charlotte; and they used it as a family residence. There were a variety of different court functions that were held at the Palace.

The rooms in the Buckingham Palace were opened up to the public during the summer of 1993. The opening was originally a method to pay for the fire damages that happened at the Windsor Castle.

However it turned into an activity that people loved to do every summer so the Queen continued to keep it open to the public. The Queen is not at the Buckingham Palace while it is open to the public though, she stays at one of her country residence homes during the time the Palace is open.

The State rooms a grand, just as anyone would expect them to be upon entering a palace. There are a variety of different palace collections to view, including paintings, furnishings, and drapery!

For those of you that might wonder about taking their small children; they are allowed inside the palace, but strollers/buggies are not permitted. The palace tourists provide slings to be worn by parents that have children that are 2 years of age or younger.
