Canary Islands – one of the top European tourist destination area

The Atlantic territory of Canary Islands is located near African state of Morocco. The Canary chain is made of several islands including the Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera and Tenerife.

The largest city in Canary Islands is the Las Palmas which is located on Gran Canaria which is capital of Canary Islands. Another city is Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Tenerife and also a capital of the Canary Islands.

In total, these islands host a population of more than 2 million people. This region is one of the top European tourist destination area receiving millions of tourists every year. Most of the islands in the region have transportation systems that are well developed including communication systems and ports. Historically, Canary Islands are known as the lost Atlantic islands and others refer to them as lands without sorrow. Phoenicians were the first settlers in the region and left a far reaching impact on the region.

Canary Islands is also a home to the highest mountain of Spain – Mount Teide, situated on Tenerife. It is 3,718 metres high and it is old volcano. The mountain is a part of Teide National Park (Parque Nacional del Teide) which is one of the most visited National Parks in the world. Next to the Teide you can find another volcano called Pico Viejo, which is the second largest mountain in Canary Islands and is also a part of National Park.

Getting in to the Canary Islands can be in several ways starting with flying in using a plane and by ferry. There are so many things you can do in the canaries. The major cuisine in Canary Islands consists of a mix of Spanish dishes together with African and Latin cultures. Caldera de Taburiente National Park is another National park of Canary Islands. It protects the land of La Palma island at an area of 4.690 hectares.

There are also numerous factories manufacturing run particularly in Arehucas and Artemi. They also mix honey and rum to produce sweet liquor known as ron miel.
