Based in the Ionian Sea, Corfu is the second largest of the Ionian Islands. Located just off the west coast of mainland Greece, the island is an extremely popular tourist destination. It’s obvious why when you consider that it enjoys a wonderful climate and features some delightful beaches.
Corfu is very green compared to other Greek islands thanks to the winter rain that falls every year. This combined with the hot summers helps to create lush vegetation including millions of olive trees. The olive trees provide the islanders with a valuable export but the main industry of the island is tourism.

Corfu offers some delicious Greek cuisine and you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a restaurant. Sunday lunch in particular is big news on Corfu so join in with the locals and enjoy a long meal over several hours – with lots of dishes!
If you’re travelling with children, they’ll never forgive you if you don’t take them to Aqualand. This is the largest waterpark on Corfu and the kids will absolutely love it.
More mature tourist destinations include the Achillion Palace, which is a beautiful building set in picturesque gardens, Old Peritihia, which is an ancient town a short drive away from Corfu, and the many churches and monasteries featured on the island.
Finally, no trip to Greece is complete without attending a Greek Night. Yes, they can be a bit touristy but why not throw yourself into an evening of Greek cuisine and traditional music?
