The Crathes Castle is not only a historical building but there are lots of things to see and do here. It is one of the castles in the world that has the most things to do which is why there are thousands of people that visit here each year.
From the windows inside the castle there are wonderful rays of the sun that shine through to light up each room, as well as when the sun is setting. The windows were placed almost perfectly for the right lighting to come through during the day hours. The paintings on the ceilings of the castle glow brightly in colour from the daylight.
When the winter months roll around the castle might close earlier because it gets dark sooner this makes it a bit more difficult to explore everything inside the castle. It is not too hard to imagine what the lives of those that used to live in the castle were like.

The castle brings the medieval times to life. As it gets darker inside the castle those that tour it can even imagine what it was like to only have the light of an oil lamp to find their way around the castle, because there was no electricity back then.
Despite the time of the year that it is at the Crathes Castle, the gardens stay green. Some ancient yew hedges can be found framing the upper area of the garden; this would be where the rose gardens grow.
The castle is located about 30 minutes driving from the city of Aberdeen and is such a great tip for a day trip. The castle is managed by National Trust of Scotland and the basic admission is £11.50 for adults. However you can save a lot more if you buy the annual pass starting from £3.25 per month for which you can visit over 300 properties in the UK for free!
