Upon taking a first time look at the Drumlanrig Castle, you will see that the architecture is based off of the times of the 17th century. To construct the castle pink sandstone was used. The architects were William Douglas and the Duke of Queensberry.
The Douglas family has been associated with the Drumlanrig castle since around the time of the 14th century. Now, the castle is in the custody of the Dumfriesshire family; the home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry.
It’s also known to be home of the Beuccleuch Art Collection. Some of the keepsakes here include The Old Woman Reading and some other elegant paintings and tapestries. There are some other wonderful features that make up this historic yet elegant castle, including the Grand reception rooms, and unique staircases.
The Country Estate is located in the middle of Nithsdale. Those that love the outdoors will enjoy the walkway paths and the cycle tracks to see and enjoy the surrounding nature.
Mountain bike and Land Rover tours can also be taken; there are grounds of various elevations to suit what tourists might have in mind for exploring purposes.
Along the tours people that are nature lovers are certain to enjoy catching a peek at the sycamore trees; the Drumlanrig Sycamore is one of the oldest trees on the territory.
You are certain to also see lots of fauna and wildflowers on your nature adventure.
The gardens are Drumlanrig extend to about 40 acres and they are a very impressive site to see. Many of the designs of the gardens date all the way back to the 17th century.
The castle is open daily from March to end of August, while its garden can be visited till end of September. The basic admission to Castle, Gardens & Parkland is £10.
