Fyvie Castle used to be a royal stronghold that helped to keep those that resided there safe from their allies. It all started in the year of 1390, and then continued throughout the years and the various centuries.

The Fyvie Castle continued to be built and restructured by each one of the families that lived in it. Fyvie Castle was built with a very unique type of architecture in mind and just by looking at it you can see that it is different from most of the other castles in Scotland.

It has been said that each one of the five families that lived in the Fyvie Castle built one of the five towers that surround the castle. There are several mysterious stories that discuss the hauntings of the ghosts and the legends that once lived in the castle.

It all starts back in the earliest years of the 13th century. The walls are those of contemporary paneling and the ceilings of the walls are plastered; they were still there up until the 17th century.

There are several fine pieces of art that lie within certain rooms of the castle. Many of these pieces of art have been completed by artists such as Romney, Batoni, Raeburn, Hoppner, and Opie. Many of the current fine collections come from the 18th century.

During the 19th century is when the landscaped parkland was designed. The 18th century wall garden has been redeveloped into a fruit garden with Scottish fruit. Visitors will certainly enjoy it as well as the racquets court, bird hide, and the lochside walk.
