Grožnjan is perhaps one of the most magical cities in Istria. It has become known over the years as being the city of artists; and for good reason too. Classical and Jazz music can be heard in most corners of the city as it is also home to a number of well-known musicians.
The history of Grožnjan can be dated back to prehistoric times as there have been a number of important artefacts uncovered over the years. Perhaps the most visible structures of ancient times in the area are those erected by the Roman Empire, some of which still stand today. During the Middle Ages, Grožnjan was the centre of many battles for power. Throughout the 14th century, much of the remaining structures were restored for the first time which is why so many have lasted through the centuries.
