Gullfoss waterfall is located in the south-eastern part of Iceland and it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world and also the most photographed attraction in the country. It is a two-tier waterfall, often decorated by a colourful rainbow so the place looks really magical. The area was declared a natural monument of Iceland.
Gullfoss waterfall is situated on the river Hvítá and consists of two cascades. The first measures 11 metres and the second one 22 meters. The water rushes into a narrow, 2500 metres long canyon, excavated by the river.
Gullfoss waterfall is one of the greatest tourist attractions of Iceland, it is estimated that half a million of tourists are getting here each year.
The nearby attractions include a picturesque town Haukadalur. In addition to historically significant buildings, boasts the fact that it is one of the world’s most important centers of learning.
