Heidelberg Castle is among one of Germany’s most famous ruins and is over five centuries old. Although there are many different castle ruin sites across Germany, this one in particular is considered to be one of the most famous and popular for tourists.
This castle has been rebuilt in part since it was demolished around the 17th century and it is located on the northern Konigstuhl hillside (translated “Kings seat”). In 1537 the upper castle of this structure was completely destroyed by a lightning bolt and in 1764 the same exact thing happened, destroying parts of the rebuilt sections.
The Schloss Heidelberg is considered to be without a doubt one of he most important structures of the Renaissance period. For centuries this castle was the residence of each Prince Elector of the Kurpfalz.
