Castle Howard is most likely the most magnificent palace of the UK, built in the style of the English Baroque. Its name is no accidental – Howard is really a generic name of the English aristocratic family of Howard and the head and the most famous member of which was the royal treasurer of the Earl of Carlisle.

The castle is located 25 kilometers to the north of York in North Yorkshire. In its construction was involved a man who became the most prominent architect in England who worked in the style of an English Baroque – John Vanbrugh.

He was also the architect of the famous baroque Blenheim Palace – the family estate of the Dukes of Marlborough.

But unlike to the Blenheim Palace where the architect was assisted by his assistant Nicholas Hawksmoor, Howard Castle is solely his creation and despite the fact that it was his first project, the pearl is the crown of his work.
