Kalwaria Zebrzydowska – a historic town in the south of Poland
Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, a historic town in the south of Poland, is a beautiful place to visit because of its architecture and its proximity to the Beskids mountains. People visit to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska to see the Sanctuary of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, which is found on the Mount of Lanckorona.
In 1999, the Sancturary was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List because, they say, it is a place of great beauty and spiritual importance. The natural surroundings of the Sanctuary contain, they say, symbolic places of worship related to the Passion of Jesus Christ and the life of the Virgin Mary; these natural surroundings are certainly stayed almost exactly the same since the 17th century. Today the Sanctuary is a place of pilgrimage.

The Sanctuary of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is made up a basilica in baroque style (which is dedicated to the Madonna of the Angels), a convent of the minor Franciscan friars (called affectionately in Poland bernardini) and a series of chapels in both the baroque and mannerist style across an area of about 6km which are dedicated to the Passion of Jesus and to the life of the Madonna.
Pilgrims come in large groups to pray at the Sanctuary and to contemplate together. On Good Friday there are feasts; the famous traditional lifelike Passion plays are acted out in the sanctuary, drawing huge crowds every year.
To visit the Sanctuary it is best to stay in the town of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska; there are plenty of hotels and restaurants to look after visitors.
