Croatia is known as the place of castles. You can find many historical castles in this country including the great Kamerlengo Castle, which has been built in the southwest of Trogir town, on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the island of Čiovo, about 30 kilometres from Split.

It was fifteenth century when this castle was built for Venetian governor. It was especially built by Venetians and the construction material used for constructing this castle was marble.

In early days it was connected with St. Mark’s Tower but now Kamerlengo has a separate identity. It is a great and big castle with high walls and it seems to be on the sea shore.

The basic reason for high walls in this castle was to connect towers with each other. Although it has been six to seven centuries since it was constructed but still it has not lost its original appearance. In summer season you can find welcome parties and performances adorning the beauty of Kamerlengo castle.

History shows that St. Mark’s Tower was constructed after the construction of Kamerlengo castle. The main purpose of the tower, besides the castle, was to provide protection for the area between mainland and island. While looking at the construction of tower, you will find it in circular shape with artillery at its top roof.

If you explore the meaning of Kamerlengo then you can find that it is an Italian word that means Venetian Administration and the basic reason for giving this name to the castle was its importance as Governor’s place.
