The place where four roads once branched out in all directions is that of Karojba. The city’s name comes from the Latin word quadrivium. However, today there are only 3 roads which branch out from the city. Each one of these roads wanders off into the distant hills through stunning meadows, vineyards and enchanted woods.

There is an open field just outside of town where one can find natural monuments of very historical and cultural importance to the region. Anyone who chooses to visit Karojba will see the Krvar Brook and the canyon it cut through the hillside. The name Krvar refers to blood in which legend has it, that a battle broke out between the people of Istria and Attila the Hun; leaving the brook the color of blood.

There are several nearby natural springs which hundreds of tourists visit every year for their healing properties and relaxing environment. You will also find the Krast Valley which is the largest open field in Istria and is home to more than 200 different species of birds.

The oldest discoveries in the area surrounding Karojba can be dated back to the Neolithic Era. Several stone axes and flint blades have been found in various digs around the municipality. After the 2nd century, the first fortifications were built in the area on the surrounding hills.

Today there are many archeological sites around the city where one can take a trip back to the Bronze Age. The Romans even built one of the first irrigation canals in Istria in the fields just outside of Karojba. The city as we see it today did not rise up until the 18th century while the region was under Austrian rule. With all of this history, you will have plenty of things to do while you are in town.
