Kelburn Castle is a castle that looks more like a large house. It is located near Fairlie North Ayshire, Scotland.
The original model of this castle was built in the 13th century, and it was later remodeled in the 16th century.
In the year of 1700, Earl of Glasgow added some extensions on to the house which made it look a lot different than what it actually looks like today.
The Kelburn Castle grounds opened up as a public park for people to come and visit in 1977.
The Kelburn Castle is known today to be one of the oldest castles. The same family has continued to live in this castle longer than the other families that come and gone in other castles throughout Scotland.
Let’s go on to discuss a bit more about the history of the Kelburn Castle. The Boyle family has possessed the land that the castle sits on since the 12th century.

During the later years of the 16th century they had a tower house built. This tower house was meant to replace a previous structure that used to be a part of the early masonry building.
In the 17th century, the family begun to add gardens at Kelburn. The early northwest wing was started by Earl of Glasgow during the early years of the 17th century and then it was finished by 1722.
The concrete facing of the castle eventually needed to be replaced on one side and so graffiti artists were hired in 2007 to paint a design over the wall. However, this is only meant to be a temporary fix.
