The Ukrainian capital of Kiev is a city rich in history, and is also a very popular European travel destination. Easy to reach from many major European airports, it is a city packed with things to see and do as well as a notoriously vibrant night-life.

Many of Kiev’s most interesting and beautiful historic places of interest are religious sites, and the one you definitely won’t want to miss is the world famous Cave Monastery. Built on a collection of caves which have long served as a holy burial ground for the monks who dwelt in the monastery, it is considered to be the most sacred place in all of the Ukraine and dates back to around 1050 AD.

Kiev, Ukraine

It is a fascinating and enchanting place to visit. You can also see St Cyril’s Monastery, as well as the vast and beautiful St Sophia Cathedral, which is a World Heritage Site. The cathedral has a unique architecture as a result of being built over a nine century long period, and houses some incredible artwork.

Kiev also has plenty of museums, including a fascinating open air museum which is basically a small town in itself, comprising cottages demonstrating Ukrainian folk history. There is also a very good aviation museum, and a lovely botanical garden at the university which is beautiful at any time of year.

In the evening, you will have no trouble at all finding places to have fun in Kiev with its excellent bars, restaurants and clubs.
