Loulé – carnival, food markets and old town centre

In the center of what many people have referred to as the Golden Triangle, you can find the bustling city of Loulé. Located along the southern coastline where the Caldeirão mountain range meets the sea, you will find the golden beaches of Loulé; home to many of the most luxurious resorts in all of Portugal. Here you will find plenty of things to keep you busy any time of the year. From golfing to a marina and yes, even a casino, Loulé is definitely a must place to visit in Portugal.

While being the commercial hub in the region, Loulé still manages to maintain its old world charm thanks to the historic town center which is home to a 13th century castle that simply beckons one to come and explore its mysteries. Nearby you will also find the St. Clement’s church (Matriz) which was also built back during the 13th century. There is also the local museum which is full of wonders and treasures from the past, as well as the Jardim dos Amuados gardens to keep you busy throughout your stay.

Loule Carnival, Algarve, Portugal

Loulé is also home to some of the finest artists in Algarve, you will find many great treasures to remind you of your visit. If you are lucky enough to visit in July, then you will be glad to know that this is the time of year that the city hosts its annual handicrafts festival which brings many great handmade crafts to the city and plenty of food too. Then of course there is the other many great annual events in Loulé that include the 3-day carnival event in February as well as the Easter festival of the Sovereign Mother which brings pilgrims from all over the world to the town every single year.

Perhaps one of the most popular landmarks which attracts thousands of people every year is the food market that while built only recently, makes use of ancient Moorish architecture. This allows the market to blend in with the surrounding cityscape, while also offering the contemporary layout that most people are accustomed to these days. You will find so many great delicacies here no matter what time of year that you choose to visit Loulé.

From food to arts and crafts, the town of Loulé has so much to offer anyone who visits. You will be able to sit back and enjoy the old-world flair of this ancient city while still having the many modern-day amenities you have grown accustomed to.
