Ruled by the Lubrini tribes until the coming of the Roman Empire, the territory of Lovran is rich in history and cultural heritage. All the way throughout the 1st century B.C., the Lubrini tribes would often attack and plunder any Roman ships that came close to the shores of this ancient region of Istria. Eventually though, the Romans overpowered the tribesmen and took control of the region.

In the 5th century, after the Roman Empire fell, the area where Lovran stands today was taken over by the Ostrogoths who controlled for the next century. The 6th century saw Byzantine rule while during the 7th century, the Slavs ruled the region. Lovran would not see any real peace until the 8th century when the Franks arrived and ruled until the 12th century. Under Aquileia control, the region became a crucial part of the shipbuilding trade in the Adriatic Sea. It would not be until the 17th and 18th centuries that Lovran would develop the most; especially in the maritime trade. For the next few centuries, the area would change hands from one ruler to the next until finally becoming part of Croatia in the 1990s.

All over the area you will find ancient medieval buildings, lush rolling hiss, white sandy beaches and many vineyards. The lovely aroma of flowers fills the air around Lovran nearly year round. You will find that there are many choices when it comes to restraints and taverns in Lovran. You can taste or sample the best of Istrian cuisine at so many great locations. The annual festivals keep everyone busy and it seems as if there is not a single part of the year that something exciting is not going on. The lovely Mediterranean climate only makes visiting Lovran a great choice for your upcoming vacation.
