The Norwegian capital city of Oslo is a trendy and popular travel destination, offering cool and cosmopolitan city attractions, plenty of history, and serving as a great base from which to take in some of Norway’s wilder, natural locations.

Many people visiting the city of Oslo enjoy taking a trip to the royal palace, which is open to the public during the summer for guided tours. If you are visiting outside of the peak tourist season or you don’t fancy a guided tour, you can still see some royal Norwegian tradition at 1.30pm each day, when you can watch the changing of the guard.

If you are interested in Norway’s Viking history, you can visit the Viking Ship Museum, one of the many popular and interesting museums Oslo boasts. Other popular historic sites of interest include the Akershus Fortress, which is a beautiful old castle that also offers outstanding views of the city.

For some culture, why not take a walk through the Vigeland Sculpture Park, rated by many visitors as Oslo’s most interesting tourist attraction. The park contains 192 of Vigeland’s sculptures, and is a surreal looking haven of tranquillity within the business district of the city. If music is more your thing, then see what is on at Oslo’s famous opera house, or simply visit to see the unusual architecture and have a relaxed lunch.

Of course, like most major Scandinavian cities, Oslo also boasts a fantastic nightlife. While it isn’t cheap to go out in Norway, you will find everything from cosy pubs to sleek, modernist bars and cool late night dance clubs.
