Potsdam is known as the capital of Brandenburg and it borders Berlin. The population of the town is about 147,000 people. The city is mainly known for the many castles and the beautiful landscapes that are there; it is a World Heritage Site.
The town of Potsdam is 1,000+ years old. There are so many different historic buildings there and the majority of them are being reconstructed because they were damaged during World War II.
During most of its history in time, the town of Potsdam was able to be accessed through the Berlin wall. It was also known as the last station before the Wannasee of GDR. The majority of the buildings that you see in Potsdam have already been reconstructed because of the war, and there are some buildings that are still being renovated this very day. When looking at the city today, you are looking at the work of five different architects.
The majority of the tourists’ attraction sites in Potsdam are attractions of the UNESCO Heritage; these places are:
- Sacrow Park
- Sanssoui Palace and the Park & The Crown estate of Bornstedt
- Babelsberg Palace and Park
- The New Garden

Getting Around
Potsdam is located in the Metropolitan area and you can get there by using the inner city and outer city trains. These trains are S-Bahn and Regionalexpress. There are many trains that can be used to get to Potsdam but many of them will take you to variety of different areas of the city; not all of them go to the same place.
If you want to be able to get to Central Potsdam then you should take the S-Bahn S7 or the Regionalepress RE1 towards. You should head in the direction of Brandenburg or Magdeburg.

Sanssouci Palace and the park
This is a large park that is located on the outskirts of the Berlin city. If you plan to visit here you should get there early in the day because there is a 2,000 person limit entry to the Schloss Sanssouci which is a famous castle that has marvelous interior design.
The New Garden
You might love visiting this beautiful landscaped area, which is the large park in the city and is in English style.
Hollundsiches Viertel
This site is located at the middle of Potsdam and it is known as the Dutch Quarters. It was built during the 18th century by a Dutch master by the name of Johann Boumann; it was built to attract other Dutch Artisans. The quarters are total of about 134 red brick houses that are divided into four separate blocks.
Babelsberg Palace and Park
This is a beautiful gothic-style castle and it is a part of the World Heritage site. Since there is a section of a University that is placed there you should expect there to be students present on your visit. It is a very nice location to visit especially during the summer.
