Raby Castle has been a home to Lord Barnard and his family since 1626. It is considered to be one of the finest castles located in England. The Nevill family is the family that is responsible for building the castle in the 14th century.
The Nevill family remained the owners of the castle until 1569 when there was a;failure in the Rising of the North. The Castle along with the land that it was on was forfeited. During 1626 Sir Henry Van purchased the castle and it has remained a part of his family ever since.
Every single room in the castle was used until the year of 1954. This is where 700 knights once gathered in the Baron’s Hall for the Plot of the Rising of the North. The Medieval Kitchen that was always busy with preparations for large meals.
Behind the walls of the Raby Castle there are some magnificent treasures from history to be found. There is a huge marvellous art collection as well as some wonderfully splendid interiors.
Some of the treasures that are included inside the castle are Meissan Porcelain, furnishings, tapestries, and paintings. On the outside of the Raby Castle you will find embattled walls a~d turrets which date all the way back to the 11th century.
Upon approaching the castle you will see that it is very beautiful. When a castle comes to mind the Raby castle would be the perfect one to fit that definition. Off in the distance of the 200 acres of trees and land is when the castle appears to be particularly beautiful. It fits in perfectly well with the scenery.
The castle is in the middle of great 18th century garden and Deer park. The basic admission is £10 both to the castle and its gardens and park. The opening times vary on the season; during the summer it is open daily except Saturdays.
