Reykjavik has always been an incredibly hip place to visit, and on most people’s must-see list. However, up until recently, Iceland itself and specifically its capital were regarded as one of the most expensive places in the world.

Following the economic problems in Iceland, and with the general issues in the Eurozone, there has never been a cheaper time to visit, so if you’ve always wanted to check out Reykjavik, now is the time to do it. Iceland is doing all it can to attract tourism, so you can find some very good deals.

World famous for its nightlife and unique design paradigm, Reykjavik is unlike anywhere else in the world. Icelandic people are renowned, like mainland Scandinavians, for their interest in cool architecture, technology and design, so even in the old town with its brightly colored roofs you feel like you are somewhere ultra-modernist and cool.

Reykjavik is the ideal place for a group holiday with friends as there are so many sleek bars, trendy nightclubs and cosy pubs – socialising here is very important. Shopping is also great here, although even now prices do tend to be high, so it isn’t a place to bargain hunt.

As well as the man made attractions, Reyjavik is also in a very beautiful natural location, and if you’re lucky, you may get to see the Aurora Borealis (the Northern Lights). It is also the ideal centre to base yourself in to explore some of the many other remarkable things Iceland has to offer.
