In Croatia there are many castles that have been built all around the country. One of the most popular castles is the castle of Frankopan. It is located on the coast of island of Krk, in the ancient town of Krk, which is one of the oldest towns of Croatia.
This fort was constructed in 1119 by the noblest family Frankopan. They used to rule this town from many decades. When the first Duke Dujam died, his sons became the ruler of this area and keeps the work of their forefathers. But as far as the construction of this fort is concerned the whole community participate in its building.
This fort has a round tower situated on the northern side of castle. It was constructed in the 13th century and was further improved in 1480 and later again in 1600. This fort was constructed with the help of limestone. There is a square tower on the eastern side of the castle, from where you have a great view of the sea.
There is also a space for the soldiers to be there. However now if you look at the fort you come to know that there are lots of changes taking place on it mostly because the time has affected the construction and the reconstruction works have to be done.
Now it is still open for the public and many people visit this place even from different parts of the world, which is a source of foreign exchange for the government of Croatia as well.
Frankopan castle becomes an important place to see the old heritage of the forefathers of this area and know how they live in their time.
