Croatia is a holiday destination that offers something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for idyllic beaches and coves, stunning national parks or sights that are built up around history, art and culture, you’ll find all this and more in this amazing country.
The Adriatic sea along Croatia’s coastline is clean and clear and there are many islands, bays and reefs to explore. A lot of the beaches are rocky or pebbly and it’s for this reason that the water is so clear. There are lots of resorts to choose from to stay in and some beaches have sports facilities as well as restaurants and cafés to eat in. It’s still possible to find little used coves that are far from crowds.

There are eight national parks in Croatia and in each of them you can enjoy the unspoiled natural landscapes. Plitvice Lakes national park has 16 lakes that are interconnected by stunning waterfalls and it’s possible to camp within the park. The lakes are an amazing crystal blue colour and there are no watersports allowed and swimming is not permitted – these lakes are protected and preserved for their beauty. The Brijuni national park is made up of 14 islands and is known as ‘heaven on earth’. The area of the national parks in Croatia makes up 8% of the country’s land mass, so there is plenty of space for people to explore the parks without feeling crowded by others.
Throughout Croatia there are plenty of historical and culturally rich sites to explore. On the eastern Adriatic coast there is evidence of stone age inhabitants, especially on the islands of Hvar and Palagruza.

There is also a heavy central European influence in some of the historic buildings in Croatia. For example, Diocletian’s Palace in Split dates back to 295AD on the Dalmatian coast. Shaped like a trapeze, this historical heart of the city of Split is protected as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
