Khao Sok National Park in Thailand is one of the most exquisite, largely untouched nature reserves in the world. With dense tropical jungles, clear fresh-water lakes, and the most amazing limestone rock formations, it’s a fascinating place to visit. In addition to perfect-as-a-postcard views, there are many unique and unforgettable Things to do in Khao Sok. Check out some of the best tourist attractions below!
Jungle Trekking in Khao sok
By far the most popular of the Things to do in Khao Sok is jungle trekking! Khao Sok (and Surat Thani Province in general) is home to some of the oldest and most pristine tropical jungles / rain forests in the world – even older, and more diverse, than the Amazon rain forest! Experience Khao Sok’s tropical rainforests on foot with an experienced local guide, and enjoy bird-spotting and learning about the unique jungle eco-system as you trek through the thick stands of palm trees and dense foliage. Be sure to search for the strange (and slightly grotesque!) Rafflesia flower – the largest flower on earth, nicknamed the “corpse flower” due to the putrid stench it gives off to attract flies (which is eats!). It may not be a glamorous plant, but it’s certainly a unique and fascinating flower! Pack good hiking boots, insect repellent, sunscreen, and plenty of water for your jungle adventure.
Kayaking & Canoe Rides
Hire a kayak and explore the lakes in Khao Sok with a paddle in hand! Cheow Lan Lake is incredibly still and peaceful, and the scenery is breathtaking. You can also enjoy a canoe ride (without the effort!) down the languid Sok River – simply hire a canoe with an experienced paddler, and spot the local wildlife (birds, snakes, lizards, monkeys) as pointed out by your guide. River tubing is also available if you fancy some fun in paradise!
Cheow Lan Lake
Cheow Lan Lake (or Cheow Larn Lake – multiple spellings exist) is one of the absolute highlights of a visit to Khao Sok. The prehistoric-looking limestone rock formations seem to take you back in time, and the blue-green, shimmery lake is perfect for swimming, boating, kayaking, or simply staring out across. You can take an organized lake tour/safari, or hire a Thai long-tailed boat and go off exploring by yourself!
Other things to do in khao sok
Stay overnight in one of the floating bungalows on Cheow Lan Lake for an experience unlike any other! Fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle, and wake up to a gorgeous, tranquil sunrise over the glassy lake. Bliss.
