When in Rome, do as the Romans and drink! When you are done for the day with the Colosseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain and other tourist attractions of historic interest, visit one of the hundreds of bars around. Unlike the typical bars you might find in the UK, these bars are steeped in culture and sophistication, smaller than most and always carry mouth-watering varieties of wine. There is undoubtedly not shortage of bars in Rome, here’s some of the Top 5.

Gregory’s

Gregory’s Jazz club is the people’s favourite for traditional food and drink and a relaxing evening of smooth jazz. Service is good, drinks are reasonable and local Romans make up most of the clientele, making that experience even more authentic.

Boeme

Boeme is a trendy bar where the ‘coolest kids’ check in to drink and dance to the likes of House/Electro on the happening dance floor. This is perhaps one for the younger crowd who take pride in posing and are there to impress more so than for the drinking experience.

The Drunken Ship

Siutated at Piazzo Campo, this bar is different to the others on the list. More modern and less ‘Italian’, this bar serves up an American style of drinking with wine not an option but lager and spirits all on offer at reasonable prices and dj’s every night. Think of it is a little bit of an alternative, more student English-American-Italian hybrid of a bar.

Freni e Frizioni

This bar is more of a bar-café which was once a garage. Completely transformed into a bright and vibrant place for the creative minds to haunt, Freni e Frizioni is a go-to for delicious comfort food and reasonably priced beverages. It is a great chill out spot in one of the cuter, more intimate squares; Via del Politeama.

Bartaruga

Bartaruga is a favourite hang-out spot of local celebrities and the flamboyant wxo love its kitsch Baroque-style décor and loud interior including a grand piano. It is on the pricier side but who cares when your drinking perched on velvet and surrounded by crystal chandeliers.
