Trier in Germany is known to be the oldest city in Germany which was founded in 16 BC. It was founded during the time that Augustus Caesar ruled and it is a town where some of the most oldest and historical German monuments can be found.
When you visit this city you will see that the creators that took the time in building it had a true passion for architect. Everything from the City gates to the many different signature landmarks are simply stunning and a reminder of just how precious the city is.
This very day you will find that there is at least 2000 years of history to discover about this city which means that a lot took place there throughout the many years. The location was designed by the Romans and was meant to be a city rather than an actual settlement. The people who have made Trier what it is today include Bishops, Electors, Ordinary People, Roman Emperors.
Many of the world heritage monuments that are based there are from the UNESCO World History Heritage which has given them this status since 1986. There are many different art pieces and treasures which have been preserved from the past so that people now can see them and know the meaning of them and why they were created. Porta Nigra is a location in the city that is known for Thermal Baths for the healing of the Romans and people that would come from afar to relax and get rejuvenated again. There are some remains left of the St. Barbara Baths from the 2nd century, and they are just as old as the Roman Bridge. In fact, the Roman Bridge is still a part of the city roads today and it is to be seen as a large part of the history of Trier which is still in use today.

Anyone that is quite into the history of various different cities of the world will most certainly be interested in the history of Trier. There are many medieval buildings of the city that still remain standing as well as some that you can only observe the remains of. One of the many historic buildings that you would be able to observe while you are in the city include the Cathedral of St. Peter; this is considered to be the oldest church building in Germany. The Church of Our Lady is also another historic building which was built in 1227. Some of the other building sites that you might enjoy seeing while you are in Trier include Hauptmarket square, Red House, St. Ganolf’s Church, and St. Peter’s Fountain. Some other buildings include Benedicting Abbey of St. Matthew, Frankenturm tower, and the Jerusalem Tower. If you want to see an impressive model of the City of Trier then you might enjoy visiting the Simeonstift Museum. There are many different other historical sites to visit in the town; since the town of Trier is so old there is always something to learn about it.
