Malham is situated at the southern tip of the Yorkshire Dales in the Pennines near Skipton. It is a very old settlement, around a thousand years with Iron Age boundaries visible. It is an area of breathtaking natural beauty with many TV programs and films having been filmed there such as most famously a scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Harry and Hermione were on the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove, it is 260ft up in the air with a steep cliff on one side meaning it really gives a dramatic effect to the scene.

If you are a keen walker/climber/cyclist or canoeist then you will definitely find something for you in the Malham area. There are hundreds of different walks you can do but one not to be missed is via Gordale Scar, a spectacular gorge that lies on a 22 mile geological fault line, it borders Cumbria and runs through the Yorkshire Dales. You can walk right through the middle of it and then climb the waterfall if you are the adventurous type. The thing that sets Malham apart from the rest is the natural beauty and breathtaking geological features all over the place. If you love scenery and rock formations then you will enjoy any of the walks around the area. For canoeists there is a river that runs right the centre of Malham called Malham Beck which turns in to the River Aire and ends up near Bradford, it runs parallel with the Pennine Way.

The village of Malham is home to a surprising amount of hotels and B&amp%3RB’s considering the size of the place, this is down to how busy it gets in the summer months because of its unique qualities. It is a beautiful place to stay, Malham village is very nice and the people there are friendly. Malham accommodation is generally of a high standard, you get a good quality full English breakfast to start the day off and home cooked dinners in the evening; you could always go to the pub of course instead. The Buck Inn and River Cottage are two of the main hotels to stay in but you also have two YHA approved youth hostels there as well if you are after a cheaper holiday.

The best time to visit Malham is definitely in the summer months, you get the renowned Yorkshire weather if you go in the winter and in the Pennines the weather can get pretty bad at that time of year. The place comes alive in the summer and is streaming with tourists and walkers on a day out. You will also find more of the pubs and restaurants are open at that time of year.
