In the interior portion of the Istrian peninsula, only 11 kilometers north east of the enchanted city of Pula, you will find the quaint village of Valtura. One of the most important archaeological dig sites in all of Istria can be found only 2 kilometers from Valtura. Nezakcij is the oldest town in all of Istria and was built back in 177 B.C. but was destroyed by attacks from the Slavs and Avars during the 7th and 8th centuries. Today it is a popular stop for many travelers who chose to stay in Valtura.
The awe-inspiring green countryside surrounding Valtura is filled with olive trees as well as an assortment of vineyards that make some of Istria’s finest wines. One can also find the church of St. John which was built back in 1899 as well as the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary that was built back in 1197.
For those who are truly interested in and the prehistoric times, the city of Valtura is the ultimate destination as there is literally so much to see, do and uncover in the area surrounding this sleepy little town. The entire region surrounding Valtura is shrouded in mystery and a long colorful history of one great legend after another. You will find yourself getting lost in a time long since forgotten as you make your way through the countryside in an attempt to see all that this ancient area has to offer you.
