The Wartburg Castle is world famous castle that is located of the southwest end of Eisenach which is located in Thuringia state, Germany. The foundation of this historic castle was initially put down in 1068 and has a sister castle which is known as Neuenberg which is significantly larger than the Wartburg.

The name “Wartburg” supposedly originated from something which the founder said upon looking at the beautiful hill which the castle is now located on, specifically “Warte, Berg” which translates into “Wait, Mountain”.

There are many historically noteworthy things which have happened within the walls of these castles, such as Martin Luther translating The New Testament from Greek to German.

Tours through this castle are available to the public at a price of just 5 Euros per person.

There is certainly a lot of history behind the Wartburg Castle and it is a breathtaking sight to behold. The Wartburg has been included in UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999, referred to as an “outstanding monument”.

There are many interesting things to learn about this castle when you go on the tour. Between its unique historical background and striking beauty, it is definitely one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area.
