If you like places with a rich, thousands of years old history, going to Portugal will be really a good choice for you.  If you are looking for a nice relaxing holiday by the sea, it will be again the right choice, because the Portuguese people do not hurry and live their lives at a time. In such case the best destination for you could be the Algarve or Alentejo.

If you are adventurous and want to become a modern day explorer, just as the Portuguese long ago, there are also many options for you. The territory of Portugal is a small but incredibly diverse. From the vast plains of the south, to small plots and large vineyards at the north. Portugal is a country that will enchant you, that you will fall in love with it at first sight and where you will definitely want to return. It does not mean that you would get everything for free here. However the winter months (January, February and March) can be very unpleasant. But, again, it depends on which part of the country you are.

Where to go in Portugal?

Portuguese territory could be divided into three basic parts: the south, middle part and north.

The south is popular thanks to the sea where you can find the world famous beaches. It is also a territory that was under Moorish domination for the longest time and therefore there are many monuments from the Arab colonization.

In the central part you can find the most important historical monuments, but it does not mean that there are not any famous beaches.

In the north you can explore the historical cities and towns and also the old folk traditions of remote villages that are already disappearing from other parts of Portugal. Here, of course, you can find wonderful beaches. However the sea here is considerably cooler than in the south and the weather can be unpredictable.

Turismo – Information Center

Information Centres are located mostly near the main squares and the most important tourist sights in every city. Here you can get a free plan of the city centre, along with many other useful information. Or you are welcome to buy maps and guidebooks here as well. I would definitely recommend you to take advantage of these information centres.

Where to go to sea?

If you are looking for a quiet holiday by the sea, come to the Algarve. The sea is warmer than on the west coast and the waves are not so dangerous, however they are liveable and can bring a lot of excitement at various water activities.
